During every weekend, like many people, I watch some movies and here I will share my experiences.
Lets start with Right at your door by Chris Gorak, is a independent movie. Its about a chemical or a biological attack which takes place in Los Angeles and the toxic smoke of the explosion engulfs the protagonists neighbourhood. Interesting concept and when you start watching it, all seems to be catchy and you want to see what happens next.
Its not often that you can see what Jack Bauer in 24 always intents to avoid, the dirty bombs, and here Jack Bauer has clearly failed or maybe he was somewhere else (surfing?).
After 30min you want to see more, more conflict follow up and more character development. For example, the main character has to seal the house because the chemical smoke can enter the house, but he thinks about it (WTF!!!) and goes after his wife who went to work in the morning to downtown and thats where the bombs where detonated. I understand that he wanted to go after her, I would as well, but once its not fruitful you go back and protect your self. He does that and the movie just gets really strange from there onwards. Suddenly a random guy comes in to the house and asks to stay as he cant stay in the next door for some reason, the two character don’t even introduce them selves and the new arrival calls the main character by Sir all the time, which is SO annoying!
The ending is interesting to be honest and I don’t want to spoil it entirely here, but lets say that you didn’t expect it!
Decent movie all around but could have been SO much more if they developed the story and the characters bit better, given us the viewers more to chew on. The wife comes back suddenly and goes bit mental, which was strange… I would give this 2 popcorns out of 5
One of the highest grossing films of all time, 1.4 BILLION FUCKING DOLLARS costing around 220million dollars. Holy shit man, 1.4 BILLION!?!? Thats huge and you know there will be lots of sequels, prequels, midquels and whatnot.
What is it about? The Earth is threathed by out of this world things, Loki (Norse god of underworld) has some anger issues and he wants to let it out on Earth. The organization for keeping intergalaxy peace, not Men in Black but S.H.I.E.L.D led by one eyed Samuel L Jackson and yes, he is angry in this one too.
So the SHIELD dude calls a special team of protectors who happen to be Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk and Scarlett Johansson as a Russian spy called Black Widow (no, I don’t get it ether). I guess Scarlett was recruited for this team for her skills and not for her female assets. Also the new Jason Bourne is in it, Jeremy Renner. There are other well known actors, Gwyneth Paltrow as Iron Man’s assistant, Paul Bettany as Iron Man’s service voice and Robin from How I met your mother (which was the weak link) as an agent in SHIELD.
I’ve seen some of the Marvel movies with these characters, the Captain America one was good, Thor was great and Iron Man was ok (haven’t seen the second one) and never have watched the Hulk movies, so I was mildly excited to watch The Avengers. The most exciting thing about this movie is what we boys always talk about when we were kids, “who will win the fight between Terminator and Robocop, or Batman and
Superman”, in this movie they shed some light on that. They brought together some of the biggest names in superhero movies, so, it was exciting to see this happening and hey, the actors are really well known, so there isn’t a lack of stars here.
So, did I like it? Ermm….From 143minutes I liked 80min of it, the rest was the usual Hollywood cheese, patriotism, saving world and impossibleness (none of them superheroes get hurt!!!). New York is the location for the last scene. Come on! Seriously! New York?! Isn’t there another place in the USA that we could wreck? How tired are we of seeing New York in every movie…How about next time Puerto Rico, or Seattle, or Salt Lake city!? I dont know, somewhere else man!
Who were the stars of the film? The Hulk! THE HULK! He was the only one who brought a little bit of humour in to the situations, besides the annoying Iron Man’s wit, which to be frank is too annoying (Robert Downey Jr. trade mark). Otherwise there wasn’t much situational humour.
Still don’t get why the baddie wasn’t played by someone more famous and vicious, it would have brought a extra spice to it. I would have preferred to see Liam Neeson or Ving Rhames as the baddie or Meryl Streep!
Overall, Avengers provided with decent entertainment and deserves to be seen, but please be aware that its not for the ladies who don’t like action, comic books heroes, Scarlett Johansson and Robert Downey Jr’s annoying wit.
I would love to see a movie with Batman, Superman, Spiderman, The Ninja turtles and Chuck Norris (just to see him getting beaten up). How cool would that be?
