The best movies of 2012

So the year 2012 is ending and we are all still alive! To celebrate this great year of 2012, we thought to put together some films that stood out

1) UNTOUCHABLE – This French film was all around a great film. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it and it really can entertain any type of a viewer. Untouchables is a true story about a wealthy man who gets paralysed from neck down, who is stuck with incapable helpers, until he meets Driss – a young black immigrant from the projects who has a very unorthodox methods.

Why is it good? Its a feel good movie with superb French humour and a functioning storyline. What makes it even better is the society it portrays (rich vs poor) and the gap that separates them. Also, the film is based on a true story.

2) SKYFALL – James Bond number 23 and what a spectacular film it is. This Bond is fierce, revengeful, personal, pure and very fucking awesome! It is without a doubt the best Bond film and one of the best of the year.

Why is it good? Everything works, acting is top class, supporting actors are phenomenal, the villain is really good, the story is sublime and the ending is just fucking spectacular. You will not be disappointed.

3) THE DARK KNIGHT RISES – Yep, the final Batman of the new Christopher Nolan trilogy comes to its glorious end. This Batman gives you so much action porn that your mind is on constant hardon. Besides Anna Hathaway, this movie is fucking gorgeous.

Why is it good? Mr Nolan has gone a long way to fornicate with your mind and paid so much attention to how the viewer would experience it. Because this Batman is darker, purer, angrier and more personal than its predecessors. It works in every level, but especially how it can build up the momentum and explode perpetually till its breaking point. Also, it was the second biggest grossing film of 2012 with $450m.

4) THE IMPOSSIBLE – Wow. Seriously, WOW. The Impossible is entirely Spanish made, besides its stars (in order to reach a wider audience, it was made in English and led by Ewan McGreggor and Naomi Watts). The Impossible tells a story about a wealthy Spanish family who were in the middle of the horrible 2004 tsunami that took place in East Asia, killing over 250 000 people (that is a huge number by the way) and their ordeal. The film is based on a real story and real family. If you ever have a chance to watch the interviews of the real family with Naomi and Ewan, then you should, because they are just beautiful.

Why is it good? Because it is a real story of a really horrible event that we, have not had the proper chance to experience yet. This makes it very realistic and close. Actually, it really touched us here at Couchpopcorn.

5) THE GREY – Starring Liam Neeson and bunch of Wolves, this is a thrilling action packed movie with absolutely terrifying scenes and a sublime ending. Seriously people, this movie is fucking fantastic.

Why is it good? It is terrifying, thrilling, unpredictable, new and it has Liam Neeson. What else do you want? Do NOT expect a happy ending story and do NOT underestimate this movie. It is without a doubt one of the best action/survival movies out there.

6) THE FLIGHT – Starring Denzel Washington and directed by the fantastic Robert Zemeckis (Back to the Future, Forrest Gump & Cast Away), Flight tells a story about a real life event that took place in 2001. Captain Robert Piche landed a fuel-less Airbus 330 to a safe landing saving over 300 passengers from a certain crash. He then became a overnight hero but quickly learned the other side of fame, when his history gets scrutinised.

Why is it good? Well, it is (loosely) based on a true event and Denzel is playing the role, so you know that this movie will have epic acting and really grabbing scenes, but what makes it REALLY special is the director. Zemeckis never fails to deliver, never. I mean, look at his CV man, he has made some of the biggest movies of all time and produced as well as written bunch of other great ones.

One thing is for sure, you will NOT be disappointed, but don’t expect an action packed movie. It is more of an character’s personal battle with its demons.

7) PROJECT X – Insane. This one word defines this movie very well. It is utterly insane, but fun, very fun to watch. This film is about a actual house party that got out of hand in Australia and wrecked the entire neighborhood and made the organizer a infamous celebrity. Directed by a fresh Iranian born director, Nima Nourizadeh.

Why is it good? Well well, there are many points, where to start…ok, tits. There are lots of tits and ass in this, great ones too. The party starts small but very quickly gets out of control including a dog airlifted by a balloon, car in a swimming pool, fire, midget in a oven and much more. Its just so much fun people!

7) THE AVENGERS – It has to be in this list for two clear reasons: 1) It made over $600 million and 2) The Cast, Starring Robert Browny Jr, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, Samuel L. Jackson, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Rinner and Stellan Skarsgard.

We already covered The Avengers here.

AND Three films that we haven’t seen but surely will be amazing

8) ZERO DARK THIRTY – This movie has made lots of noise before its release due to its subject, it is basically about the hunting of Osama Bin Laden, but with a twist: The story is (rumoured, strongly) based on real CIA records and Navy Seals testimonies.

Why could it be good? It is directed by Kathryn Bigolow, the director of awesome Hurt Locker. The story is just so interesting and the trailers look fantastic, but above all, the fuss that surrounds it tells us that this movie is more than controversial

9) CLOUD ATLAS – Been waiting for this gem for a while now. Starring Tom Hanks and Halle Berry (unfortunately), Cloud Atlas is an human exploration of how the actions of individual lives impact another in the past, present and future.

It is a multilayer story with fantastic visuals and stunning photography. Lets just hope that it is good.

10) TAKEN 2 – Yes, we simply haven’t had time to watch this one yet, but reflecting from the first one, this one should be great. Also, it has the original cast with a continuing storyline. That is so cool!

Take our word for it, Taken 2 will be great.
